Baby Shower on a Budget

Hello everyone!
I hope you’re all well! Today I thought I’d share a quick post discussing my baby shower that I had the weekend just gone.
As of course everyone is aware, due to Covid & social distancing measures...I did initially think I wouldn’t be able to have a baby shower. I have a very big family, then there was Zac’s family & of course my friends so I knew I wouldn’t be able to have everyone in the same place at the same time.
When the rules eased slightly and up to 6 could meet, I decided to try and have a little picnic with a few friends just so I could have a little
bit of normality. However last minute, due to the rules changing again to 30 people outside, I was able to have more friends. My auntie very kindly let me hold it in her back garden and I decided to just have friends to make it slightly easier.
My Dress was from Primark for anyone wondering!
As it was quite last minute, I had to source a lot of things very quickly and decided to make my own versions of games & decorations I had seen online.
The only things I purchased were 2 items from Etsy, a few decorations from Home Bargains and of course some food. I was able to borrow a family members gazebo, had enough chairs and tables to use myself and came up with a few ideas to design my own games!
Below are the items I purchased from
Etsy, which were by the way really good quality, came within 3 days and were good prices!
The photo booth props were fab & the Cupcake decorations just added a cute touch because I wasn’t getting a cake. I then saw the Lust or Love game and though it was hilarious. for all three it came to £9.
To create a photo booth, I used an old Bamboo garden screening and draped it over the fence, added some floral greenery to the top and some of the baby vest buntin decorations I got from Home Bargains. I also used some arrow decorations around the garden to guide people to the toilets, photo booth & food. These were £2 from the Works. In total, the photo booth area cost me around £3.
I also created a welcome sign, I had seen so many on Amazon and a lovely lady on Instagram actually designed one for me but I didn’t have chance to print it out before hand. Using an old photo frame, some paper & sharpies, I also used one of my scan pictures to create the below.
Game wise, I designed my own quiz which was a mixture of questions about my self and babies in general. I also created little cards & wrapped wool around them for each person so they could measure how long the piece of wool would be that would be needed to go around my bump. This was a really fun game! Lastly, I filled a bottle up with socks and asked everyone how many they thought were inside. As a whole, these 4 games cost me nothing as I used card & sharpies that I already had and my Grandma has some spare wool. I believe 4 games was enough and the baby shower lasted around 3 hours. For the prizes I went to the poundshop and got 4 items (all blue to match the theme) just something little but fun & useful!
When planning the baby shower, I noticed a few people were giving out thank you presents. Just a little something to say thank you for attending and for any presents I’d received. I decided to do a little treat bag and a small bottle of wine for everyone. The treat bags were £2 from B&M and I also got some sweets and chocolates which in total cost me £3. I got the bottles of wine for 99p each from Savers however B&M also did them! This was probably the most expensive part but I do believe it was a nice little touch. I created a label which attached to the wine stating to drink when I have the baby. Everyone loved them!
Lastly, Food! Due to it being a Sunday afternoon, I knew that a lot of people may have already eaten/had plans for a Sunday dinner so I decided to just put a small selection of food on for everyone to pick at, nibbles rather than a big buffet! I went to Aldi, bought two pizzas, garlic bread, pitta bread & hummus, nachos & dips and then I made my own pasta. I bought paper plates from B&M for 99p and made my own buns! I told everyone to bring their own drinks to make it easier for anyone wanting alcohol or just soft drinks and that was it. Most of the food got eaten and it only cost me around £10-15 for the lot.
Overall, even though the wind caught up, I had a lovely day! It was so nice seeing everyone and we was very lucky to receive a lot of gifts for our little one and I also received a lot of pampering gifts for myself. My friends are too cute!
If you’re reading this and attended then thank you so much for making my day so special. I really enjoyed myself and I think after being in lockdown, hardly seeing anyone and just things seeming a little more normal, everyone was so happy!
In total, I spent around £50. I’m sure it could be done even cheaper but I had seen so many amazing baby showers on Instagram and I just had in my head I wanted a ballon arch, matching dinner sets and a big lovely cake ... but in reality, as long as you have the people you care about, a space for everyone to sit and a few games to hand, you can make it very special without it being a big extravaganza.
I hope this helped some one planning a baby shower in the near future.
Thank you for reading!
