Hey everyone,

I did a blog post about Graduating University and I got a lot of amazing feedback from it so I have decided to do another one, a year on and what life is like now.

So over a year ago, I graduated University with a 2:1 in Fashion & Textiles: Buying Managemnet Degree and even though the year has gone mega fast... It feels like forever since Uni and I actually miss it!

I feel like the last year has been a whirlwind and if you’ve graduated university you may understand the stress you feel about getting a job or getting a job which is relevant to your degree.

I jumped into something to tie me over for the summer as I needed the money and thought it was a win win situation as my best friend worked there and it would enable me get some office admin experience. A year down the line I found myself finally leaving even though it was only meant to last till the end of August 2018...

Dont get me wrong, I don’t regret staying there - as much as I really disliked it. I learnt a hell of a lot and I am the person I am today because of that job. When you work in a company where you either don’t feel stable, feel comfortable or just hate what youre doing - you slowly start to loose motivation and the thought of going to work can become unbearable. Thats what happened to me and I started to become embarrassed that I’d not done anything with my degree and felt like work was controlling my life. After realising that wasnt the place for me I started looking for jobs and with each one came a slight disadvantage. Whether that there was something I didnt like about the job, the location or the money.

I started to imagine my ideal job. I knew that I wanted it to be something to do with managing social media. I loved the idea of getting into marketing and knowing I’d always liked retail, I wouldn’t mind mixing the two. After a few months of going to interviews, I finally got the job I’d been looking for. I really do believe that if I hadn’t have started putting into the universe what I wanted, I wouldn’t have got it. Manifestation is key.

The main thing for me was being happy in my job and learning more. I had to sacrifice a few things when taking the job but I am hoping I made the right decision for my future. One of them was taking a pay cut. I had to decide whether I would be happier with more money or happier in a job I love. Deciding to take the plunge to get some experience and enjoy my work...I took the opportunity!

I have also decided to take a leap into the beauty industry. It has always been something I love and I am passionate about. Before I went to university I was going to do an apprenticeship at a Hair Dressers in Leeds. Something swayed me to do my course at university instead but beauty has always been something I wanted to be involved in. I am so excited to get my own little business set up!

Taking a step back, I know how hard it was once I left university and I don’t believe there is a support system in place for people like me, who just feel abit lost after graduation. It’s weird to think it goes from being 100%, bombarded with assignments, dissertations and projects to absolutely nothing. Unless you do a placement year it can be really hard to find you feet but my advice to anyone feeling that way is, don’t worry. Understand that everything happens for a reason and you’re going through this now for better things to come. Take any ideas you have and put them into the universe. Whether it’s relevant to your degree or not. What you want to do, you can achieve and be that person! You’ve just got to believe in yourself, as cheesy as that sounds!

Thank you for reading this post and if anyone wants to talk about anything ive just said, please feel free to message me! I’d love to speak to anyone who was the same as me or is in that position now!

Until next time,

Chlo, x
