If someone would have told me that pregnancy goes fast, i wouldn't have believed them. The first three months went so slow I remember it feeling like it lasted forever. However, my second trimester has just flown by. Considering I've spent most of it in the lockdown, its been a whirlwind of emotions but I find it crazy that I'm only 12 Weeks away (if i go full term) to meeting our little boy. Todays post will go into depth about certain parts of my second trimester which is the weeks 13-27 of pregnancy.
Below is Months 4,5 and 6 of pregnancy and how my bump has grown throughout!
Midwife App - 17th March 2020
So as lockdown approached, I had to attend this Midwife appointment alone which wasn't too bad. She took a urine sample, found the babies heartbeat which was so nice to hear and I ended up having my flu jab at this appointment and booked in for my whooping cough one of which i had on the 21st of April. The doctors were empty and at this point i was a bit scared because of covid-19 but the midwife reassured me that I should be fine even though i was still working. I just had to make sure i stayed in the office more and didn't interact with the customers.
Gender Scan - 20th March 2020
If you haven't already seen, theres a seprate blog post discussing my private gender scan in more detail so click here to read it! This when we found out we were having a little boy. it was such a lovely and exciting day!

Furloughed - 24th March 2020
Like a lot of people, on the 24th of March 2020, I was furloughed from work which meant i was dismissed from work with 80% pay for the foreseeable future. It was a very scary and uncertain time but looking back its done wonders for myself without sounding selfish. I have been able to enjoy my pregnancy and relax at home with no worries of having to walk up three flights of stairs around 10-20 times a day. Everything happens for a reason!
20 Week Atonomy scan - 20/04/2020
A whole month later, it was time for my Atonomy Scan which again i had to attend alone. Again though it wasn't too bad as it was very quiet and well organised at my local NHS hospital. My sonographer was lovely and explained that this scan was all about getting the measurements of my baby and making sure everything was looking okay. She was very talkative and kept me updated on everything she was doing. I had heard from other people that they were allowed to facetime or video the appointment for their partners however i wasn't allowed to do this. Due to this though, they were giving you free scan photos which usually you have to pay £5 for 2.
She kept showing me our little boy and confirmed it was a boy as he apparently 'wasn't shy'. Everything was looking perfect with him however he was very active and wouldn't stay still so it took a little longer than usual to get the measurements. It was so nice to see him again. Sometimes you get caught up in everything going on that you forget what you're actually growing inside. No one can prepare you for how you actually feel when you see them on the screen. After confirming everything was perfect, she sent me home with some scan photos.

Round Ligament Pain
Up until the 22 Week point , I had been very lucky to not have any symptoms. However, even though me and Zac had been going on walks every day for the previous 4 months, I started developing a very sharp stabbing pain in my right side just under my belly. After a bit of research and discussions with a few other pregnant ladies, the midwife confirmed it was something called round ligament pain which is all to do with the fact that all your ligaments were stretching inside to accommodate for the baby. Which of course is completely normal and just meant that i would have to sit down a lot more frequently if the pain was too bad.
Toilet Issues
Another thing which quickly became an issue was needing the toilet more frequently. Its just part of daily life now but I'd find myself needing a wee after 5 minutes of walking even if id just been when leaving the house. It did become annoying but it has slowly calmed down and i have gotten used to it. Waking up in the middle of the night was something i never did but i was going 3-5 times during the night at one point.
Insomnia
Talking about night time, I started feeling extremely uncomfortable on a night and struggled to sleep a lot. Someone told me it was my body's way of preparing for a baby and i think they're right as I've got used to only having a few hours sleep now. Unfortunately, the pregnancy pillow didn't come in very handy on a night. Only when i was sitting up which was odd. I started getting back pain from not being able to get comfy and found myself dropping off around 1-2am and waking up again at 5am unable to sleep. I have however found the perfect combination which has been making my sleep a lot more bearable and has been allowing me to sleep for longer. The sleepy body lotion from Lush and the Sleepy head pillow and room Mist from Made by Coopers are a fab duo!

Nausea
I have been extremely lucky to not have suffered with morning sickness throughout my pregnancy. However, around 25 Weeks I started feeling nauseaous around midday every day. I found myself having to lay down and relax for half hour because it was making me feel dizzy and so uneasy. To say this is very minor, it was horrible so I cant imagine how having it every day for weeks on end must feel.
Midwife App 19th May -
This was a very short appointment which just consisted of her checking my urine, blood pressure and having a feel of where my baby was. She referred me to the health visitor and made sure i was up to date with my vaccinations. Due to Covid-19, the doctors was very quite and everyone was geared up with face masks which was so odd to see.
Throughout the last few months, my little girl Dakota has been so caring and cuddly. She has been snuggling into my bump at times and the baby has responded by kicking her! Which i think is amazing because its clear they can both sense each other. I am so excited for her to meet him and for their bond to grow even more as my pregnancy goes on! Do you have any pets that have been overly protective or around your bump a lot?
Heartburn
This has been one of my worst symptoms during pregnancy. It has been horrible and very consistent for the last month. I can't put it down to any specific food or drink because it's just so random. Most recently its been worse on a night but I was sometimes getting it all day if not in snippets throughout the day. I made sure they were ok to have during pregnancy and stocked up on the chewable Gaviscon tablets. I keep a set in my hand bag and a set next to my bed so i am fully prepared. These have been a life saver and i only need two to take it away!
Clothes
As the weeks gone on my bump has got a lot bigger and I've been finding myself uncomfortable in most clothes. Luckily, we have had some gorgeous weather in the UK and I have been able to wear sun dresses mostly which has kept me and bump very comfy. Other than that, over the bump leggings and jeans with oversized t-shirts have been the best option for me. I've found under the bump bottoms to be very uncomfortable. I will be doing a more in depth blog post next discussing my wardrobe essentials during pregnancy so keep your eyes peeled.
So, that is goodbye to my second trimester and hello to my third (and final..oh shit) trimester! It's crazy how time flies and he will be here before we know it! I am actually back at work from the 1st of July which will be only part time however may be challenging with me coming up to my final weeeks. I have no plan of when i want to go on maternity as if possible i want to leave it as long as i can to have more time off with the baby when he's here. I am thinking of doing monthly updates or even two week updates from now on to document these last few weeks of pregnancy!
Let ,me know if theres any thing specific you qwant to read about or see from me!
Thanks for reading,
Chloe xx
